Sofrance: eco-design for the A380

Sofrance’s latest product, the Ecological Sofrance Highly Innovative Filter, or Eco-Shift, has flown all week at the Paris Air Show, on the Rolls-Royce Trent 900 engines powering the Airbus 380.

“This fuel filter is highly innovative, since it’s made of composite materials, with a synthetic filtration medium,” notes Pierre Farrenq, Vice President, Sales of Sofrance. “Eco-Shift offers two major advantages: first, it’s fully incinerable, which means that it meets airline requirements for waste management. Secondly, the use of composites instead of metal provides weight savings of about 30%.” Selected by Rolls-Royce at the end of 2001, Eco-Shift is being marketed for the first time on the A380.
